Class: CannotPauseFollowerError

Defined in: packages/core/src/container.ts:526

PAUSING A FOLLOWER, which is not a thing a cap can express.

A pause CAPS the block a generation fetches up to, and a follower fetches nothing at all: it advances exactly as far as the STREAM it folds and holds no toBlock of its own. So the cap would sit there governing a verb that never runs, and pauseState would report a drain that is not happening -- a pause that lies, which is worse than a refusal, because the whole point of draining is knowing that nothing a reorg can invalidate is still being answered.

What stops a follower is stopping its STREAM, which is the writer's business (ADR-0044: a follower's whole claim is that its state is a function of the stream, so the writer's pause is felt by everything following it), or deleting it. Pausing a follower ON ITS OWN TERMS needs the follow path to keep replaying its window while it drains, and that is the follower's landable rather than a cap.
